Do you know the life cycle cost of your door?

What is product life cycle?

Product life cycle refers to the period from the definition of the device or system to the final decommissioning and scrapping or sequestrating. Usually, the majority of the cost of the device is caused by its use and/or its improper use. The inactivity time of the door can lead, for example, to production downtime, which causes a significant part of the total product life cycle cost. Most of the future costs will be determined by the design solutions at the beginning of the life cycle.

Hangar Door design
It all begins with planning and design

With good planning and a life cycle cost review done as early as possible can significantly reduce operational costs. The Champion Door fabric fold-up doors are designed to be suitable to the site and to work in the required conditions. Already at the sales meetings, the expert sales team at Champion Door knows how to choose a door suitable for each application. A good example of this is the door designed for dusty sites such as peat and wood chip facilities. In the traditional fabric fold-up door, the amount of dust and ice accumulated inside the door can weigh hundreds of kilograms, which, when frozen, can cause the door to malfunction. Champion Door has designed a door for this kind of site that has an open frame structure which guarantees that dust and dirt cannot accumulate inside the door over time. This is a good example of joint development work together with Champion Door's customers.

A maintenance agreement reduces total costs

The life cycle of products can be prolonged and service breaks can be shortened by preventive maintenance. The design of the Champion Door fabric fold-up door is already such that it does not require much maintenance. Nevertheless, the preventive maintenance of the door during its operational time is an important factor in calculating the lifecycle cost of the entire door. The Champion Door maintenance program specifically aims to reduce door repairs by focusing on preventive maintenance. The most effective means of preventive maintenance is a maintenance agreement that ensures that the door is regularly monitored, and wear components are replaced before they lead to larger repairs.
